Re: What is meant by "news"?
Any economic information that affects or tells about the economic status of a country. Some of these news are good or bad when they are released and traders look to them for market direction. Generally speaking, when these economic data come out stronger than expected, then it is a buy for the currency of that country. When the economic data comes out weaker than expected, then it is sell for that currency.

Re: What is meant by "news"?
News does not strictly pertain to economic happenings and if you look around, political events and wranglings all over the world can cause ripples through the markets as we have seen in the past. News can therefore be both economic and political, other factors included.

Re: What is meant by "news"?
The news is very important because both big financial institutions and speculative traders wait for all the news to make their decision and the market will most of the time reflects what their decisions are. However, it is not very easy for new traders to decipher the news and use them effectively for their trading.
