Why do most people use a different name on their facebook profile?

"privacy" is the word. I'm using a anime characthers name. to hide my real identity in face book i dont want spam in me. and i really dont want other person that i dont know to have my full name.

But not using your real name will limit you from being recognize by the people whom you know in here so there is disadvantage for not using your real name in here, I am using my real name in here because i want to be recognize by my friends.

Yeah, I do not use my real name as the username on Facebook because of privacy reason, too. It turns out, some of my friends could still find me by searching me using my e-mail address like my Yahoo! friends did even though I do not use my real name. And usually, I add people when we want to add each other on Facebook, like my offline friends or gaming friends from other sites asked me to add them. So, I just gave them my profile page's link.

i also have used my real name and i think it will be easy for my friends if they want to search me in the facebook. I have seen lots of my friends have used the other names than the real one and that notification keeps coming in , but all of us must use the real name for more easy and simplicity

@jasmine pradhan- sometimes we use the different names because we can to have little change , i m sure most of us use the different names sometimes, yes it will be difficult to see the friends if they have changed their names, even they have the real names and when we try to search it shows the list of same name, anyway it will be difficult

It will be really difficult to find your friends who changed their names on Facebook but it's their choice if they don't want to be searched on Facebook then they won't change their names, that's why it's their choice not to be search in Facebook.

Well to me i believe that our change of names can't change our identity in any ways and i believe that ones someone knows us very much well on facebook,even our change of name can't make him/her unable to recognise us.Like the other i was chating with one of my facebook friends and all of a surden he called my real name of which not an Ordinary friend of mine knows that name.

yes i have notice this that instead of keeping real name they use different name on their facebook it may be because they may want to be unique

Even it's not reasonable that some people are changing their name for the reason that they don't like their name that is really true because there are some people that changing their names in Facebook because they don't want it, that's another reason.

It also adds variety and add an interesting element to your profile. I dont see anything wrong because anyone is welcome to use their profile the way they see fit as long as they dont use inappropriate names or impersonate other people in the process. I have changed my profile name to my nickname at the moment and I like it that way.

there is no way that change in can add variety in facebook. It will be much more harder to find the friends in facebook if we have some different names. So most of us must use the real name so it will be easy for all of us.

Facebook and other social network gives people the plartform to be who ever they want to be not who they really are. That is some people paint rosy picture of who they are online. That is why some people use diffrent names for their account.
