Data Recovery FAQ’s
Some of the more frequently asked questions about data recovery are as follows:
1. How do data recovery programs find my deleted files?
When you need to recover data, software will methodically scan your entire computer hard drive and locate files areas that have data written to them but have been marked as empty. That data contains your lost files. A data recovery tool can see the name that the file used to have and reinstate it.
2. What percentage of lost files can be recovered?
If the data recovery process is begun immediately after the files were lost or if one simply has not used the computer since, then almost 99% of all lost, damaged or deleted files will be recovered.
3. How long will it take to recover my files?
The process can take from several minutes to several hours. If all you need is to rescue some files you recently inadvertently deleted you can accomplish this in seconds. If you have reformatted an entire hard drive by reloading the OS the data recovery procedure will take around three hours. Of course you don't need to be there as the program is working as most are completely automated.
4. What kinds of media can recover data software be used on?
Hard drives, both internal and external, floppy disks, digital camera smart cards and USB flash drives are just a few of the devices that you can expect successful data recovery from. Even iPods and music players can have deleted files recovered.
5. What does data recovery cost?
Sending out a drive or other failed component for data recovery can cost between $200 and $500. For those who would like to save money and learn how to use programs to recover data, software starts at around $50.00.
