if your profile is on private mode, you only show information's with your friends, and whenever someone will view your account he/she will only see your photo and some times it depends on what kind security measure you like for your account. t also help us to prevent people who copy our photos with out or approval and also a way to protect from hackers.

The whole idea of setting your facebook profile to be on Private is simply to prevent strangers viewing your private and intimate details. i dont get why a stranger should know these things. i also dont want my info freely available on the net. all anyone needs is to just google my name, click on my fb profile on results and they know what i been up to for the past few years than my own mother does.

Yeah,its geared towards those that hack peoples account and sometimes use their details indirectly but with the private mode activated,it will subdue or even stop the act of breaching

we can also protect our profile even if we are not in private mode, just enable the settings about search engine. were if any one search you using any search engine can't find you. your the only one who can add a friend, in short you have the power to chose whom you want to add and hide from people you don't like to view your profile.

Hi! My account is in private profile mode which means nobody can search me on facebook unless they have my direct url to my profile. Sometimes even when looking at my friend's friend list a person can't find me there. I didn't know about that at first but when a blogger friend was trying to find me, she can't find me, then I told her that I am a friend of another blogger, and she tried to search me on that blogger friend list and still can't find me.

@Red, do you use your full name with your Facebook account, because if you use it there will be time that they will able to search you. However if you are not using your maiden name then that is the time you will not be searched unless you give the link to them.

Yes, you can have the option if you want to become visible in search results they can't search your accounts.. my account is in private but not worrying much about i shared also some of my post in public especially those status that contains links.

It's better if we are in private mode at least we are not sharing our information to those people who's not on our friend list.. and also to protect our privacy i also set my profile not visible to searches when someone search me on search box.

You know when you searched my whole name there are lots of names will show and you will not easily see me unless I use my real picture there. Maybe you are not using your real picture there too? I have a friend who is searching me until now at Facebook but she can search me too. I set up my Facebook on privacy mode too.

^I am using my real pictures on my main account, and as I said before that even on the friend list of my friend you can't find me there. When my blogger friend was browsing the list of another blogger friend it doesn't have the pictures, she can't find me on the list though that blogger is a common friend of ours. It's just that I have it on private mode, but I think I have edited the settings already so I can be found easier.

Answering my own question, my profile is on a private mode. By doing this so I feel more safe and secure. Bad guys are just around the corner.

Yes that's the benefit of being in private mode. We can control those people who can view our profile and we can just choose who would be our friends as we are the ones who will ad them. Being updated with the changes on facebook is also a good way, because sometimes they would make changes and it would affect our profile setting.

Well my old account was in private mode,but due to i lost it i created a new account and put it in public mode so as to make my previous friend see me and add me again and it is really working mostly when i do update my status.

Since I become aware of the hackers can get some personal information when we are on public settings I set my account in private. So far I just visited my Facebook account last night and it is still good. I do not worry that my account will be safe in private profile mode.

Mine is in private mode too. I also feel secured. I only allow few information to be seen by others. And i don't accept any friend request from peple i don't know. I just want my friends to be the one to know what's going on with me.

i do disagree with you that hacker can get our information when our account is on public mode sittings beside the public mode setting only enable our status and uploaded pictures to be seen by every facebook user and nothing more.

Mine's is on Public and i don't have any Confidentials on my profile.
I don't really think it would be that much fun using the Private feature,cos you would be deprived most of needed conections wth most People.
