Basically there are three types of software they are used on the computer. They are:
1> Operating system software (Windows XP, MAC, Ubuntu, Linux, Unix etc) which function is to control all the hardware as well as other software.
2> Application software (office package, notepad, Photoshop, Internet explorer etc) which function is to provide us with the various software on which we perform tasks.
3> Utilities software (sound software, printer software, graphics software etc) which function is to provide the access of external hardware to the computer and let it be used.
