Why do most people use a different name on their facebook profile?

I've been wondering all this while,the reason behind most people using totally a different name that they known for long ago.Can someone give me some reasons here.

I have used nicknames instead of my real name on facebook a number of times and dont see anything wrong with that. I just see it as a way of spicing up my profile and making it interesting. Sometimes I just put a funny nickname that will get people talking and starting up a conversation. Its not meant to deceive people in any way to make it interesting.

Well,the truth is clear that the reasons why most people do use fake names atimes for the profile on facebook are;main fake names profile on facebook some people do use it for security purpose but there are some other people who live a lie and they must have been using a fake facebook account and the fake account might have been a disguise of the name they using on the account,then again they must have been claiming what they are not and so they end up answering names that are never their name,moreso fake names does not help atall in terms of facebook friend finding,i think should be a Negative part of it.

Talking on the area of protecting themselfs on with the fake names i don't think that fake names on facebook profile does help in protecting someone from any sort of internet harm.Because facebook on its own have already provided a way of protecting and guiding our facebook account by prviding the feature of the privacy mode where we can restrict our facebook account from uunknown and unusual friends online.so if some one should be using fake name on facebook as a way of protecting the account,it is of no use.

Yes there are some names that people would make fun of.Like some do have fake names put up to their accounts.There can be some discrimination existing in the country of their origin and the name can create some problems to them.

I still dont see a problem with using a nickname and not my real name on facebook.. As long as I am not using someone else's name or pretending to be someone I am not. Similar to you I have used this nicknames so much often.And simply there is no problem at all with changing our names just for registering to a social networking site.That is a name that we like and we just use it.:)

yes I support this view too.it is also to hide our privacy sometimees we may not want to reveal our persoanl names becasue they maybe like we donot want to show our names.So some users may get commented or disturbed by other users becasue of the names.

This is a personal choice I dont see any problem with it whatsoever. I also use my nickname here and dont have any problem since I only want close friends and relatives on my profile instead of getting friend requests from everyone who just about remembers your name.

I dont see anything wrong because anyone is welcome to use their profile the way they see fit as long as they dont use inappropriate names or impersonate other people in the process. Using the different name in the facebook make it more difficult if you want to find some of your friends. IF u have used some different name then you friends will find it difficult to find you. The name which are written in other language other than english , its difficult to find. Instead of using the different name we can make the wall as well as profile private to hide you other information
