I think it has been a long time to see Yahoo Mail has the button to mark any e-mail we receive as the Spam. We can make decision from ourselves, then once it is marked as spam, the next e-mail will be delivered to the Spam Folder. Or even we can block the sender too.

Well, some spammers were persistent, as I have experienced, and the best thing to do if such thing happened is to deactivate the account for awhile. It will make the spammer stop sending spam mails if it bounces back.

I've been blocking them but they seems to use not only new addresses, but also new domains by adding "a." before their domain name and I'm getting upset seeing them. Any idea how to block them once and for all?

well i think there is no other way just keep blocking them.i also do the same things actually or maybe if you tired of those things change your address and make it private for your friends only and never join any site using that account or publish the account everywhere

Sometimes you have to read the message in order to flag it. I often read the message before flagging it. some folks just send ads to the address. so it becomes hard to read the message and even spam filter can't detect it. so in case you have to manually press flag button.

I have new ymail interface and i found that that most of the email spam automatically goes into spam folder. So it is most likely issue of the if the mail is not tagges as safe. So spam is both cleared automatically and you can do so manually tag them as spam.

Blocking sender usually solves the issues for me. I am sure that for others as well this could be the easy fix. I don't know about the level at which it can block but i would like to see comparison for the same. I mean spam detection compared to hotmail and gmail.

All useless messsages, even the forwards messages are all spams in my mails so I deleted it. There is a setting in our yahoo mail that delete those spams. There is also a way since you have to unsubscribed to some sites so that those spammers cannot give spam messages to your mail. Some spam mails contains virus so beware.
Each time you receive any kind of spam email, mark it as junk and it should prevent future junk mail. However, since Yahoo's spam mails filter isn't all that great, I suggest switching to Gmail.

using Gmail, it is easy to filter the spam mails. I have lots of spam mails at Gmail, that i do not bother to open because I consider spam mails like a trash. Does yahoo have the same? Or I might look at my ymail.

Well, then that mean you will just have to put up with the whole spamming thing then. Maybe you should try to separate your work mail from your normal everyday use mail. See if that helps

There are many spam mails I will received when I joined many yahoo groups in the past. Some yahoo groups is no longer active so some spammers use it to post their harmful links. What I do is to unsubscribe, it solves my problem about spam.

To me the spam message is easy to detect because when opening the message, it has no meaning because the head starter is usually different from the content in it. I dont like spam messages to fill my mailbox and i take out time to delect them to less spam email that fills my mail

Has anyone had any experience with the response from facebook moderators if you report such issues? Do they delete the content, give warnings or deactivate the accounts of these people that constantly spam?
It a pity that you cannot block someone's messages on fb since anyone even if you are not friends with them can still send you messages.

Yahoo cannot detect spam mails, I mean some of them. We are the one that will be doing that job. Unlike Gmail that separates spam mail to the real mail. If you want to detect spam mails use Gmail so it will differentiate it to you.

So i guess yahoo mail spam filtering is not that good if it has to wait for you to mark messages as spam first. I would imagine that yahoomail should be able to detect spam messages automatically and sent them directly to the spam/junk folder. I havent used yahoomail a lot but I believe this should be possible. As for facebook, there is no automatic spam filtering to my knowledge.

If you want mark any messages as spam and put them in spam folder then mark the address of the messageas spam and the rest of emails which are being sent form that email in past will automatically be moved to spam and any email which will come to your account fro that address will be moved to spam or junk folder depending upon the settings you have chosen . And you can also use spam filter to save youself from spam emails.

Yahoo has its own default security for this but not 100% because there are still a lot spam mail that may go in our inbox folder and just few on our spam mail but when you mark it as spam then the next time that you will received and email from that email address then it will be directed on your spam folder.

Taht is always the case with the yahoo spamming a mail and i think that is no where leading them, cos its all on us and they don't do that for us like other mailing sites do,if they will always do that for us all the timw it would have been the best as in always have spam mails move at all times and not us moving it to stop it the next time,it would have been better.

me / articles / Spam Detection Concepts]
The following article is exerpted from Chapter 11 of Postfix: The Definitive Guide. This is the introductory section of the chapter and is meant to give you the conceptual background information you need to create your own spam blocking configuration. The rest of the chapter (not included here) provides more information on the Postfix details.
As long as you're not operating an open relay, you can be confident that your systems are not being used to harm other systems. Your next consideration is to protect yourself and your users by limiting the spam your network receives. Ideally, your mail server could simply reject any message that looks like spam. Unfortunately, whereas humans can look at a message and know instantly that it's spam, computers have a tougher time detecting it without making mistakes. The ugly truth is that once you start to reject spam, there is always a risk that you will block legitimate correspondence.
Misidentifying a legitimate message as spam is referred to as a false-positive identification. Your anti-spam efforts are an attempt to detect as much spam as you can with the fewest possible false-positives. You have to weigh the size of your spam problem against the possibility of rejecting real email when deciding how aggressive to be in implementing your anti-spam measures. The extremes range from permitting all spam to accepting mail only from pre-approved individuals. Pre-approval may seem severe, but the problem is getting bad enough for some people that whitelist applications, where any correspondent you receive mail from must be identified ahead of time, are becoming more common.
There are two primary ways of detecting spam: identifying a known spamming client and inspecting the contents of a message for tell-tale phrases or other clues that reveal the true nature of a spam message. Despite the difficulties, postmasters can achieve some success with minimal false-positives by implementing various spam detection measures.
[Go to comments]
Client-based Spam Detection
Client blocking techniques use IP addresses, hostnames, or email addresses supplied by clients when they connect to deliver a message. Each piece of information supplied can be compared to lists of items from known spamming systems. Spamming systems might be owned by actual spammers, but they might also be unintentionally open relays managed by hapless, (almost) innocent mail administrators. In either case, if a system is regularly sending you spam, you will probably decide to block messages from it. One problem with identifying spam by IP address, hostname, or email address is that these items are easily forged. While the IP address of the connecting system requires some sophistication to spoof, envelope email addresses are trivial to fake.
DNS-based blacklists
In a grass-roots effort to stem the tide of spam on the Internet, various anti-spam services, generally called DNS-based Blacklists (DNSBL) or Realtime Blacklists, have developed. These services maintain large databases of systems that are known to be open relays or that have been used for spam. A newer, increasingly more common problem is with systems that have been hijacked by spammers who install their own proxy software that allows them to relay messages. These hijacked systems can also be used in distributed denial-of-service attacks. There are DNSBL lists that are dedicated to listing these unwitting spam relays. The idea is that by pooling the information from hundreds or thousands of postmasters, legitimate sites can try to stay ahead of spammers.
Usually these systems work by adding a DNS entry to their domain space for each of the IP addresses in their database that have been identified as spam friendly open relays. For example, if the host at IP address 192.168.254.31 has been identified as an open relay, the (fictitious) DNSBL service No Spam Unlimited using a domain name of nospam.example.com creates a DNS entry like 31.254.168.192.nospam.example.com When a client connects to your Postfix system, Postfix can check the No Spam DNS server to see if there is an entry for the client's IP address. If the IP address has been identified as an open relay system, Postfix can reject the message.
Consider very carefully before you decide to make use of a DNSBL service. Many open relays used to forward spam also operate mail services for non-spamming users. You are very likely to block legitimate mail in addition to the spam. Also keep in mind that you are offloading to a third-party the responsibility of making important decisions about who can and cannot send mail to your users. On the other hand, if you're buried in spam, DNSBL services can definitely help. If you decide to use one, review their service options and policies very carefully. Again, you have to balance your aggressiveness and the likelihood of losing legitimate mail against the magnitude of your spam problem.
[Go to comments]
Content-based Spam Detection
In addition to identifying clients, you can often recognize spam by its contents. Certain strings within email messages mark them as likely to be spam Our Rates Have Never Been Lower. But trying to distinguish spam by the contents of the message can be problematic. Imagine that you receive lots of spam offering new house mortgages. You figure you can eliminate most of it by blocking messages that contain words like "really low interest rate on a new mortgage.

I suddenly received a lot of spam mails too usually from this "fucbook" site and other adult dating sites, aside from the ones that sell various stuff. What puzzles me is even my inactive emails get these kind of mails. That feature have actually been a lot helpful for us yahoo mail users, so we could easily get rid of spam. Once an email address is saved, or marked as a spammer, we don't have to bother redoing the process again, since it will be automatically not be able to send to our inbox.

Well this is the very best way that we can always have the best detection on our mails all the time and with the button that we do have before it was made easy for us to detect the spam mails all by ourselves, but its seems that this feature is no more working out for us again in the yahoo site.

I can see it is still there, you just have to mark the messages as spam, just checking them then from the drop down options you could see that, which is an easy way to mark lots of messages as spam in one click for all.

I've been blocking them but they seems to use not only new addresses, but also new domains by adding "a." before their domain name and I'm getting upset seeing them. it becomes hard to read the message and even spam filter can't detect it. so in case you have to manually press flag button.

Those guys are really irritable and they always try breaching into our personal accounts so that they could steal our information you should just continue what you are doing at blocking them over and over, or if you really want to get rid, get a new email.

I go to my yahoo email website and enter the password and the username that i register with the time i register my yahoo account and i enter in my yahoo email. I go to my inbox and check your message if i dont see any one there i go to the folder that yahoo keep every email that they think hackers are sending me and check if hackers sent me a new one. That is one of they way i detect it.

Well marking the message into spam mails will also help in detecting the mails that are not to be in the mailbox itself but into spam folder. But in most of the other mailing sites that we have on the internet, they are doing much better when it comes to deleting the mails that are spam from our mailbox all the time.

Well i don't really know if there is any application that we can use to detect all the spam that we do receive in our yahoomail. There are lots of spam mails that are always coming into the yahoomail always and its not been controllable by any means on my opinion. I guess when we suspects anyone to be spam mail we just have to move it to spam folder.

Spam messages are the message which are send by the person which we don't know. Now days the message are recognized by the software so there will be no harm to us.

@dabchi,yah that is think is one thing that we can do to that and ones we move the mail in the spam folder they will always be channeled into the spam folder all the Tim that there will be more spam mails coming into the mailbox. I love gmail how they run their own mailing site for us all the time its far better.

Well, as I know here, the system on the Yahoo Mail will automatically detect an e-mail as the spam or not. Sometimes it is not perfect, specially if there is a new e-mail from our new friend here. But, so far everything is fine

Yeah the yahoomail system is not perfect in detecting spam mails all the time. It fails us most of the times that we are supposed to be in use of it at most. I prefer the ways other mailing sites are been doing it so perfect all through. Like that of the Google mail do transfer the mail into spam folder immediately.

Detecting message as spam is quite easy to detect the message as spam once you mark the message from the one which you want to put in spam as spam then after that the message from that person of address will be marked as spam and will be found in spam.

I think that the thread starter is talking about how we are going to know a spam mail even not yet read or even transfered to spam folder. Well to me on the yahoo is one other thing that most ofus do not know very easy and then we might not get to know atall. Less as most of the mails are been obvious as spam so we can move them to spam at ones.

usually when I come across like that, I browse first, if not dangerous I would open it, but if dangerous and suspicious so I deleted it immediately :)
