It's just a simple site wherein you'll just send messages directly to the person whom you want to read it, then that's it already. And I think, there are still other reasons why Twitter have this kind of idea.

the text limit is fine.. just image if one can tweet more than 500 text characters.. you'll be reading and reading around unfinished and then another tweet comes around with another 500 text.. tweeting box will be full every time a new tweet comes in..

I think 144 characters is just about enough to state a single thought, just as what twitter is for. In fact, I like having that limit because it can challenge me to put my ideas in just144 characters. As for your affiliate link having to many characters than what twitter offers, we just ave to remember that twitter was not created for that. It is for sharing thoughts and experiences not for business.

Yes 144 char is good enough to make your tweet good. If you will add some characters there will be a big possibilities that spammers will have a long tweet with 2 or 3 links attached on it. I think Twitter make it only 144 character so that they can minimize spammers.

I thought about it, and there is something I do want skype to add. Not the number of characters, I want them to add the capability of using smileys. A picture is worth a thousand words and smileys can help us communicate our emotions better on our tweet. I dont also know if this already exists but I cant seem to find smileys on twitter.

200 characters will do twitter is also being use on mobile so the message should also come like a text message and beside it just a way to promote one links and not create an entire article or post

For me it is really fine because i just sometimes use twitter... The max characters is just enough to say hello and to have some conversation,but if you have some use of it,surely it will not be enough...

Yes I am wishing there are more than 140 characters, but I learned to let my tweets to have a smaller character because of Twitter, so it is fun too. About when you update a news, you wil just post the links of the news instead of the headlines.

Would people resort to writing poems and love letters if this was increased. This is highly likely. But I don't think an increase of at least an additional 100 characters would be bad though.

Twitter is about 140 characters and that is its thing. It is the uniqueness why people develop to be creative in using Twitter. To be able to be there at Twitter you learn many things, even when everyone is using 140 characters so that is enough.

I am wishing there are lots of characters but since that is how they sell Twitter, so I am fine with it.

There are setting where you can type more than 140 characters at Twitter, to make your messages longer. I haven't tried it but I think it was on some thread under Twitter too. You just need to visit that threads. Moreover, I find the 140 characters to be unique, just like the "poke" setting of Facebook. I hope Twitter just stay as is.

I dont understand this. Are you saying that there is a feature that allows you to show more than 140 characters in your timeline without having to use URL shortners. If so, I'd love to know more about it. The 140 characters is quite limiting and although some may say it encourages one to be creative I would just love the option to have more...

Yes, this is actually possible through twitTER client, even thougH you have mORE than 140, charaCTERs to be posteD, in your timeline, it still allows you to post it by GIVIng a link for the continuation of your tweet, aside from this it also gives a lot of features

Yes, but no need for that because there are some services which is third party which will allow us to tweet longer we will just post the link of the continuation of our message then when they click it they can see the full message of your tweets and it's not hard to use it.

There are times i wished there can be more characters but when i look at how many tweets are allowed (1000 tweets a day) If the characters are increased, what will happen to your wall? Imagine how much spam, lengthy spam you will receive...

I'm happy with the 144 but every now and then i do sometimes wish it's 150 or 160 because my tweet could use a few more characters to complete the thought

I think 140 is little bit fair because you can concise the comment, mostly we comment on the celebrities and post our if there is long character then it boring to read the lengthy posts, thats why twitter have made it to the 140 characters only

That is one limitation i also noticed about tweeter, but do you know it could actually be that it was put in place to curb lengthy posters who would stop at nothing but bore eeryone with their silly lengthy posts of theirs, so making it short, informative and relivant is the best. I also do think the characters limitation should be little extended while we tweet because at times when we would want to share the activities we would not be able to mention good details. Short and sweet tweets are cool but the limitation should be increased to like 250 characters at least. Hope twitter team would come up with this idea shortly.

Well defined ashishrock. That is it. Saving time and unnecessary sharings seems to be the motto of tweeting. It has the unique usability of it's own. Or should we say it's just in between the closed friends or your favorite buddies and not those all people who just want to stay connected to you for lifetime to see how have we've been and all.

The short updates are just way too short but I think there's a purposes why the message box just allow it that short messages each time. So we just have to learn how to make short updates and messages. I don't know yet if there's private inbox on twitter account. So I would try to look for that also.

As for now the potential thing that could be added on twitter that I feel is missing on twitter's side, is the chat box, just like Facebook, it has became popular and so useful because of the chat box where we can use it for private chats, or group chats, where we can choose whom we give a message unlike tweets which will be seen by all.
