Aaron Lennon has pulled out of the England squad to face Ghana due to a minor hamstring problem.

The Tottenham winger had been pencilled in for a starting slot in Tuesday's friendly at Wembley, having played no part in the Euro 2012 qualifying victory over Wales on Saturday.

However, he felt some discomfort after Monday's training session and the decision has been taken to send him back to White Hart Lane.

Head coach Fabio Capello had previously released Lennon's club-mate Michael Dawson, along with Kyle Walker, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Wayne Rooney and reinstated captain John Terry.

Lennon would have been looking to make an impact against Ghana after forcing his way back into Capello's plans with a series of fine performances at club level over the past few weeks.

He faces competition for a regular England spot, though, with Ashley Young impressing on the wing at the weekend and Theo Walcott also a key player when fit.

Stewart Downing and James Milner remain with the squad and are in contention to play in midweek, while there could also be a debut for Matt Jarvis of Wolves.

No replacements have been called up, and Lennon's injury is not thought to be serious enough to rule him out of Tottenham's Premier League clash with Wigan on Saturday.
